Ilya Ilyich’s lying was not a necessity, like a patient ... not an accident, like the one who was tired, neither pleasure, like a lazy person: this was his normal state. Advertising looked after Oblomov's devoted, but almost useless Zakhar.

Oblomov had two problems: income from his estates was very reduced, and the owner of the apartment, which he rented, demanded to free the living space. It was possible to solve these problems with a sofa, but Oblomov could not do it. He could not even pull himself together and write several business letters. Friends came to Oblomov, tried to get him out of the house, but in vain.

One of the guests was a paraffiner Tarantiev, who suggested Oblomov to move to his kuma on the outskirts of St. Petersburg, but that was too lazy. Only Andrei Stolz could raise Oblomov from the couch and solve his problems, but he was away. In his youth, Oblomov led a more active life, studied, worked in the office, dreamed of his family. Olga convinced Oblomova that she loved him. Soon Oblomov began to notice that those around him were looking at them. He realized that, meeting with Olga alone, involuntarily compromises her. Oblomov made her an offer, and she willingly agreed to become his wife. Part 3. The short -lived happiness and a complete gap was spent all summer Oblomov with Olga and was very happy. The girl forbade him to report their engagement, she wanted him to first settle his affairs and began to equip the estate.

In August, Oblomov found an advertisement that he could not break the contract for renting housing by the widow of Pshenitsyn, who slipped him Tarantyev, and he, without reading, signed. He had to either find a new tenant, or pay a huge penalty.
