David Davidov biography
Rabbi David Davidov: “Mountain Jews and Azerbaijanis always lived in friendship” on March 1 in Toronto, the rabbi of the Mountain Jews of Canada David Davidov opened the ceremony of the public writing of the historical first scroll dedicated to the unification of the mountain Jews of all countries. Writing the Torah scroll units together everyone who took part in its creation, and connects them with the Almighty.
This is all the more fair when it comes to the Torah scroll dedicated to the unity of the mountain community. This project of writing the Torah takes place under the motto “Mountain Jews of all countries of the world! David Davidov, a trip to Azerbaijan made a great impression on him: “This was my first visit to Azerbaijan. After the trip, I had a great desire to organize a group of people from our community, from Toronto, in order to visit Baku and Lip.
Since I liked both in the lip and in Baku in all respects. Firstly, the attitude of the local population towards Jews, to their lifestyle. I liked the respect of the local population for tourists, their friendly look. All four days of my stay in Azerbaijan will be remembered for life. Of course, it should be noted the beauty of the city of Baku, a lot of beautiful modern buildings, but at the same time it was possible to preserve historical and cultural monuments in the central part of the city, ”the rabbi noted.
Rav D. Davidov visited the Hesed Gershon community center, in the synagogue of mountain Jews in Baku. In honor of his name, we wrote down the letter in the Torah Scroll.
In addition, I want to note that I am proud of the fact that the Sinagogue of the Mountain Jews is functioning in Azerbaijan and is served 24 hours a day with state protection. But I must say that you will not see this in all countries and this indicates the great attention of the country's President Ilham Aliyev to the mountain Jews. I will add that I saw how the chairman of the community of Mountain Jews Milich Evdaev works for the benefit of the community, for the good of the friendship of peoples in Azerbaijan.
I was also affected by the labors of the rabbi Paisakh Mirov. The festive ceremony of inscription letters into the Torah scroll in the synagogues of Baku and lips passed very well. I was affected by warmth from the entire community. Mountain Jews and Azerbaijanis have always lived in friendship. And there was never a bad attitude towards Jews in Azerbaijan. Jews in Azerbaijan have always been surrounded by the love and care of Azerbaijanis.
This is tested by time. And the fact that this continues is very pleasant. I had a desire to visit Azerbaijan again. A very pleasant trip and I am still under the most positive impressions in all respects.
