During the operation, the 3rd Army as a front strike group successfully crossed the Dnieper River, broke through the enemy’s heavily strengthened defense, captured and expanded the tactically important bridgehead, freeing the city of Rogachev and cutting the Rocadic Railway line of Mogilev-Zlobin, and captured the no less important bridge on the Druit River, the tributary of the Dnieper.

At the end of the operation, individual compounds continued fierce battles of local significance to improve the positions. On the night of February 24, in a battle on the Drutsk bridgehead for the village of Velikiy Konoplitsy, the Rogachevsky district of the Gomel region Corporal Filipenko, he was one of the first to burst into German trenches. Then he took an active part in cleansing the northern outskirts of the village of enemy soldiers. At the same time, throwing grenades, destroyed a hand machine gunner, and also captivated one German soldier. In the midst of the battle, which turned into a fierce battle, he saved the life of a seriously wounded deputy commander of the battalion to Captain Koptyukh, who, risking his own life, carried away from the neutral zone.

In the battle on the same day on March 1, the shooter Filipenko burst into the enemy dugout and captured four German soldiers by force of weapons, for which he was awarded the medal for courage. Within the framework of the Belarusian strategic offensive operation, from June 24 to 30, the troops of the 1st Belorussian Front conducted the Bobruisk offensive operation, during which they surrounded and destroyed the main forces of the 9th Wehrmacht field army in the Bobruisk region now, as part of the Mogilev region of Belarus.

He was wounded in a fierce battle, but did not leave the battlefield, and only after a repeated wound was evacuated to the rear. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 19, for exemplary execution of the command missions of the command at the front of the fight against German invaders and at the same time the valor and courage, Corporal Filipenko, Alexei Afanasevich, was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
